Banana Bread Breakfast Smoothie Ingredients

Smoothies, like cacao, offer a great delivery method for whatever superfood ingredients we want to combine. In this recipe, the calories carry a balance of macronutrients (protein, carbs, and fats) that you can tailor to your own best nutrient ratio.

Super Mushroom Protein Powder: As the name makes clear, this is a protein powder. Today, protein powders conjure images of post-workout shakes in crowded gym spaces. Sure, it's important to add supplemental protein to your busy day, especially if you exercise frequently, yet you may be surprised that many Americans don't get the minimum amount of protein they need to thrive.

In Super Mushroom Protein Powder, the hempseeds contribute a highly digestible form of protein. And with 15 grams of protein per serving, it's a solid start toward your personal protein goals.

This powder also boasts a healthy dose of medicinal mushrooms, including Lion's Mane for mental focus, Turkey Tail for immune support, Cordyceps for enhancing performance, and Reishi for adaptogenic balance. †

Bananas: Here, we put the delicious first. Ripe bananas — with brown spots speckled across the yellow peel — offer a dose of potassium and fiber. If you like unripe bananas that may be more green than yellow, you're in luck because this is an excellent source of resistant starch, which is a favorite fuel of beneficial bacteria in your gut.

Carrots: Adding carrots to the smoothie gives it more body, that is, more of a texture. It's easy to gulp down a more liquidly libation, but carrots create a fiber-filled experience. On top of that, they are high in beta-carotene, which is pro-vitamin A and essential for healthy vision and blood flow.

Walnuts: Walnuts add the nutty flavor of a traditional banana bread. Adding in walnuts delivers more than taste, though! The Doctrine of Signatures lets us know that walnuts support a healthy brain. They are the richest nut source of Omega-3 fatty acids.

David Wolfe and Udo Erasmus discuss the importance of raw fatty acids and getting the right balance of Omega-3s and Omega-6s. Listen Here: https://davidavocadowolfe.substack.com/p/episode-48

Cinnamon: The spice of every holiday, cinnamon gives a pleasant warm flavor in light amounts, but you may want to add more. Cinnamon boasts a high antioxidant content, while at the same time supporting healthy blood sugar levels.

Recipe: Banana Bread Breakfast Smoothie

Ingredients:

  • 1½ cups your favorite milk
  • ½ cup shredded carrot
  • 1 small banana (or ½ large banana)
  • 2 scoops Super Mushroom Protein Powder (use included scoop)
  • ¼ tsp cinnamon (Ceylon preferred)
  • ¼ cup walnuts, roughly chopped (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Place all ingredients, except the walnuts, in a NutriBullet or high-speed blender.
  2. Blend for 30–60 seconds.
  3. Add walnuts and pulse 3–5 times, until the walnuts are incorporated.
  4. Pour over ice for a cold drink experience, or enjoy as is!
David's Pro Tip: Add the liquid to the blender LAST. Then if you've mismeasured, it's easier to make adjustments!

Recipe Notes & Upgrades:

  • Too sweet or missing that chocolate flavor? Add 1 tsp raw cacao powder. Cacao adds antioxidant power and curbs some of the sweetness of the smoothie, depending on your preference. (You can also substitute 1 scoop of Vorgaccino for the cacao powder, if desired).
  • Do you do better with a higher fat meal? Add 1 Tbsp. coconut oil. This adds stable saturated fatty acids, as well as MCTs (medium-chain triglycerides). MCTs absorb quickly, fueling your body and brain with immediate energy.
  • Looking for a snack instead of a meal replacement? Reduce the milk to ½ cup and add 1 cup of tea. Any herbal blend will add beneficial compounds to your smoothie. Consider a medicinal mushroom tea, like chaga, reishi, or turkey tail; a root tea like licorice or dandelion; or horsetail or nettle for a nutrient boost. And leave out the walnuts!
