What Is Berberine?

Berberine is a naturally occurring yellow-orange pigment antioxidant and antimicrobial compound found in many plants such as Barberry, Goldenseal, Goldenthread, Oregon grape, Coptic, Scutellaria, Phellodendron (Amur Cork Tree), Tinospora (Avurvedic Giloy), Xanthorhiza (Yellowroot), and numerous other plants.

Berberine is usually most-concentrated in roots, stems, and bark.

Like Quercetin (yellow) and Curcumin (orange), Berberine has developed into one of the most important colour pigment supplements.

Berberine is a quinoline type of yellow-orange pigment. To be specific, berberine is a bitter isoquinoline yellow-orange alkaloid. The quinones/ quinolines are heterocyclic aromatic organic compounds that comprise their own category of natural colour of pigments. And they're typically yellow to yellow-orange. Typically when these type of compounds are loaded with energy they'll be yellow. And then as that energy gets used up, they lose their colour and turn white or clear.
